David Damon Watercolor

An original watercolor painting commerates Pop Byrnes' life and accomplishment.

At the 60th anniversary 2009 Byrnes Foundation Luncheon, architect and artist David Damon, 1983 scholar, presented an original artwork for permanent display in the James F. Byrnes Room at Clemson University.

He stated, "The design to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the James F. Byrnes Scholars captures key moments of memory. The design is composed of

  • a portrait of James F. Byrnes
  • icons of the U.S. and S.C. domes where he worked
  • the S.C. state flag and map that we share as our home
  • an image of a parent and child that bonds each of us in unity
  • starfish and the nautilus that represent Super Weekend on the beach
  • the calendar of 12 months that keep us connected
  • interlocking circles of life
  • the red square of both loss and love
  • and our motto: United by Loss, Bound by Love."

Elements of the watercolor are used throughout the Byrnes Schoalrs website to brand its various sections.

Donate To The Foundation

In return for their generosity and support, Mom and Pop Byrnes asked only two things from us: become the very best people we could become in life, and make sure their legacy of family continues for those who come after us.

Please consider making a tax deductible contribution to the James F. Byrnes Foundation to secure its ability to invite more deserving young women and men to join the Byrnes family, both now and in the future. The Donate button will take you to the Paypal site where you can use your credit card or Paypal account to make a secure, one-time donation or set up a monthly recurring donation.
